Why use DuckDuckGo?

If you've already installed Porteus and opened Firefox, you'll notice that the default search engine is DuckDuckGo. We've set it this way for a number of reasons:

1. DuckDuckGo does not collect or share any of your personal information. There's no search history, profile or anything else stored, sold, or given to third parties. Please read this site for more information about this and why you should be concerned about it: https://duckduckgo.com/privacy

2. DuckDuckGo does not "Bubble" your search terms. Other search engines will show different results to two users who enter the same search terms, filtered based on your search history and other factors. See this site for more on "bubbling": http://dontbubble.us/

3. DuckDuckGo has tons (and tons) of features! Visit this site to see what we mean: https://duckduckgo.com/goodies
You can use it to calculate a tip, generate a random and strong password, and see what time it is in Beijing.

4. DuckDuckGo supports the open source community in general, and it supports porteus.org specifically. DuckDuckGo has directly contributed funds to porteus.org, and has entered into an agreement to pay us back a small amount of the revenue that they generate from searches made inside the DuckDuckGo seach menu we've set in Firefox. This is a small amount of money per click, but it does add up and is helping to pay the costs of keeping porteus.org up and running. So please consider using this seach button for your next web search!

As you can see, we're fans of DuckDuckGo and hope you will be too. Give it a shot and after you read up on it and try it for yourself, you may find it's your search engine of choice, too!
