Printing and scanning for Porteus

mksquashfs is your friend, when you don't know where the script that you need is located...
in terminal mksquashfs python-evdev-1.7.0-1-x86_64.pkg python-evdev-1.7.0-1-x86_64.xzm, the first is a directory where you have open the archive the second is the porteus package, you have also unsquashfs if you want to open a xzm package.

For remove unuseful packages you can unpack 07-printing-x86_64-2023-09-23.xzm module (as root user) to /tmp and run these commands in terminal

Code: Select all

su
toor
ROOT=/tmp/07-printing-x86_64-2023-09-23 removepkg brscan brscan2 brscan3 brscan4 brscan5 brscan-skey epson-inkjet-printer-escpr epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2 hplip hplip-plugin pantum-1.1.106-x86_64
cd /tmp
dir2xzm 07-printing-x86_64-2023-09-23 07-printing-x86_64-2023-09-23-lite.xzm
.
.
Great-- this gets me down to about 246 MiB (uncompressed) from the full 394 MiB. Quite a helpful reduction when running in RAM (and still works fine of course).
Thanks again!

Brother is not good choice coz they are provide only 32 bit driver.
On 64 bit systems you are need in multilib for Brother printers.

Printing and scanning for Porteus

Post#116 by vinnie » 12 Jul 2024, 01:00

in the past I had bought an hp because they said they had the best drivers for linux (maybe even opernsource, I don't remember).
I was also convinced by the fact that the ink cartridges were water-based (don't buy laser printers if you don't want to get intoxicated) and that they included printheads in the cartridges (and so you don't risk them drying out like epson).
The problem is right that they put protection chips on the cartridges and so they are not refillable ... and now they even do DRM-style controls.
so there's a rumor going around that the best ones are the brother ones.
It would be interesting to know your opinion.

:%) Not sure what that means.

The Brother 32 bit driver module works with my Always Fresh and Always Fresh + modules boots by allowing me to select the Brother_MFC-J4335DW - IPP Everywhere driver, which for me is perfect. But when I boot in my Updates mode, same as the Always Fresh + modules, which include my save.dat file that driver is not shown as being available. :o :%) :hammer: I see many brother drivers and 4 MFC ones but not the one that I see in the other 2 boot modes. Something in my save.dat is blocking the needed driver. Help!

And then.... I tried it again with the save.dat update system and it worked! :Yahoo!:
What I was doing wrong to make the proper driver not be found I have no idea. :hammer:

So, back to the multilib question. Where/how do I find it?

Because some of the supplied binaries are 32 bit only, on an x86_64 system some additional multilib packages such as a 32 bit version of glibc (lib32-glibc) may need to be installed.

Have not tried that but rarely do since printer is located upstairs at the other end of the house.
