I don't understand...
Hello.
The guys who made Porteus 3.2.2 are so clever, so why is the Porteus so buggy? And I mean obviously bugs, I do not mean the hard to see bugs. In KDE for example, there is a program - "Paint Program", but is it there really? When I click it, it never appears. In "Porteus Settings Centre", there are missing icons! How is this possible? Isn't this shame? So much effort to make fast & small operating system, and after that, the overall feel for the user is not destroyed but controversial.
We all know the Windows have the obviously bugs, so I try the Linux Porteus, and the shitty bugs are here again :-(
I don't want the new buggy release of Porteus, I want the update for Porteus 3.2.2, and update again, until no bugs will be here.
There is a one big thing in Windows which is better than in Linux - The vertical scroll bar. In Windows I can grab the scroll bar, move it, and I can return in about 40 milliseconds to the location where I grabbed the scroll bar. In Linux this is very frustrating - I cannot quick return to the "grab" location, sometimes I am looking for the location 5 seconds, sometimes more if the page is too long! This thing is not trivial. I don't understand why this is not fixed, because it is very easy to fix this problem, we can just add 4 (estimation) lines of code to the code!
Can somebody explain me all of this strangeness, please? (And please use simple English with no sarcasms and metaphors, because English is not my mother language, and I will not understand maybe. Get me like I am computer, and I will be understand everything, I hope.)
Thank you.

Re: I don't understand...
movobojo, KDE5 is not stable. I agree with you.
KDE5 under heavy development and a lot of things are changing day after day - look at release cycle.
I advise to you Cinnamon, XFCE and MATE desktop environments. It's stable releases.
Cheers

Re: I don't understand...
You wrote KDE5 is not stable, so why it is exist? Why someone publish unstable software?
I Also tried Cinnamon, XFCE and MATE, but I find bugs there too. But XFCE was the best - there was just 1 thing which upset me - I wanted restart computer, but I did not see how - there is only 1 "choice" visible: "shut down the computer". I am not able to imagine, why they do this. It feels like it is a joke. There was "reset" button in very old computers, and I cannot simply restart my computer with latest Porteus XFCE?
I would like to mix all the best things from KDE, Cinnamon, XFCE and MATE. If I do it, the Porteus would be excellent operating system. Porteus maybe is great operating system, but I see the strange things there, and it confuse me.

@ movobojo
If you had invested more than 5 seconds of your time to explore XFCE,
you would surely have seen this.
not to mention the right-click options of the "shutdown button"

Re: I don't understand...
OK, I tried right-click options of the "shutdown button", then I select "Properties" and now I have restart button in top-right corner. Thank you for help. But the image you post is not in Xfce, I think ...donald wrote:@ movobojo

So it is not "no restart button joke", I simple don't understand this OS yet.

Re: I don't understand...
In MATE (Porteus 3.2.2), when I am playing with "Theme" tab under "Appearance Preferences" window, I lost many icons and I cannot simply return to default theme. Maybe I should first save current theme or download something but I think it is a bug anyway because good program do not want from user to fix something which should be easily fixed by the program itself.Blaze wrote:For example?movobojo wrote:I Also tried Cinnamon, XFCE and MATE, but I find bugs there too.

Re: I don't understand...
OK, so first I must save my Theme, then I can try different themes, and then I can go back to my saved theme, and lost icons will show again. (Porteus 3.2.2 MATE)

Re: I don't understand...
In Cinnamon I cannot find bug right now, but I remember there was a ugly bug. I will search later tomorrow...
In Xfce when I click the "shutdown button" and I click the button again and again, now I have 3 "Shut Down" windows opened. Is it OK?

Do you use cheat code login=root? Can you show this via commandmovobojo wrote:In Porteus 3.2.2 Xfce I clicked top-right ON/OFF button and this window appeared:

About MATE I can't confirm that, because I don't use it.

I thing I am not root. But it does not matter anymore:Blaze wrote:Do you use cheat code login=root? Can you show this via commandmovobojo wrote:In Porteus 3.2.2 Xfce I clicked top-right ON/OFF button and this window appeared:

About MATE I can't confirm that, because I don't use it.
All the strange is now clear for me:
- KDE5 is unstable, so the bugs are OK there (but I don't understand why someone publish unstable software)
- I found no bugs in Xfce, it was just my poor knowledge
- in Cinnamon I remember I found a bug, but I cannot find it anymore
- in MATE is the "Theme" bug with lost icons
So I am going to use the Porteus, but I need to solve big task:
- disable HDD
- fix that vertical scroll bar
After I will do that, I will post in "Porteus Praisers" category ;-)
