Porteus-v3.2.2 bug reports here

Possible bug with man configuration... When I activate a module with man pages in a folder other than /usr/man porteus cannot find the page and launch a lynx search over internet. This is what /usr/local/bin/man does, check for man page existence and open it with /usr/bin/man if exist or looking for...

Porteus-v3.2.2 bug reports here

Strange things are happening... In order to test the assumption of brokenman targeting power management as culprit of my hangouts, I boot porteus into normal graphic mode just adding acpi=off to kernel parameters (editing menu option with tab) and then porteus does not reckonize my second monitor an...

Porteus-v3.2.2 bug reports here

I'm suffering sudden porteus 3.2.2 hangs It's seems that after a while porteus hangs out and stop responding to keyboard and mouse, the only thing you can do is turn computer off and turn it on again. Firstly I thought it was related to changing to a new computer (It's a windows 10 computer with a S...

porteus core modules for wm/desktops

I suppose base module for a window manager or desktop manager like 003-xfce.xzm includes all needed to run properly, I mean all files from that desktop (ie all files in kde distribution) or at least the most important ones (because maybe a selection is done to not include all distribution) but my qu...

Re: USM bug reports

I agree bash is really fast (I could even say superfast) but my idea of changing to another "real language" is not looking for increasing speed but increasing robustness, I'm thinking about improving quality rather than improving performance. Now you can say, ok and what's quality for you? well, my...

yes this seems would be the solution, even when I would prefer not to install grub on SDD disk in order not to modify the disk. Thanks!

Re: USM bug reports

Anyway I think usm should be more robust and informative. I didn't know about how many files it use, shouldn't be a good idea to refactor it? maybe rewritting in a "real programming language"? Going by experience in writing system software at the level between the 'kernel' and user applicat...

Re: tinkering with windows boot manager

port , if you use 2 or more disks (1st with Windows, 2nd with Porteus) how about press F11 (or another boot menu button) and choose what do you want to boot when BIOS is boot up? yes that works pretty well but it's not a valid solution for a day to day basis because I don't want to enter boot anyti...

Re: USM bug reports

maybe it's my lack of understanding but I think usm should be more robust in its behaviour, at least it should manage errors in a proper way such as warning about them rather to try to continue executing as if nothing happened That is also my thinking, but in this case after looking into it in dept...

Re: tinkering with windows boot manager

port do a ls /mnt/sda1 command, if it shows an EFI folder than the machine is definitely a UEFI machine. And if it is I recommend you install Grub2Win on the Windows system. It is what I use. Grub2Win installs grub2 to the Windows boot loader and the Windows EFI boot loader thus when you boot you w...

tinkering with windows boot manager

This is a question for all those windows users out there, I'm totally dumb in windows questions but now I have a machine with a windows installed and I'm forced to boot up into windows system. This new machine came with a windows 10 installed in a SDD disk, so I connected my two hard disks (porteus ...

Re: USM bug reports

another weird usm bug: # usm -g ansible You need the following programs to continue: installpkg removepkg but they are there: # find / -xdev -name '*installpkg*' /sbin/installpkg # find / -xdev -name '*removepkg*' /sbin/removepkg The error is due to /sbin is not in my PATH (so easy to solve ;). The ...
