Network Time Protocol (NTP)

Well done. Now run the same file command on /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Eastern and you can see why /etc/localtime looked the way to you and how setting timezone works :happy62:

Network Time Protocol (NTP)

If I recompile a kernel (a very unlikely thing I could do) with the machine's clock set to a different time how does the new kernel know what, and if, time zone has been set? Interesting question, I traced it this way: uname uses the utsname structure and in particular the version entry to get the ...

Network Time Protocol (NTP)

Recompile the kernel!! Really?? Yes. As you know now, uname -a shows the date and time at which the kernel was built. And just like 6:45 in the morning for me is not the same time for you, the time part of the uname -a has to be suffixed with a timezone, which will not work if the machine that comp...

How does one get the uname -a msg to not report the local time zone must be set? Oh that's simple. You need to recompile the kernel with your timezone set ;) The Date & Time Settings Window in Porteus displays the Region as Europe, London This could be because London is GMT (during winter) which is...

BLUETOOTH

rchase , could you try using bluetooth from Mate or Cinnamon. Blueman is already installed there. Use either the "bluetooth" cheatcode during boot time or start bluetooth from Porteus Settings Center. Only then start to search for bluetooth adapters from the menu. If this still does not work, it mi...

Bluetooth for KDE in Porteus 5.0

Seems what is missing, is the documentation to the user to use the bluetooth cheatcode, or to use the bluetooth option from the Porteus Settings Center, if not.

Bluetooth for KDE in Porteus 5.0

rchase , blueman is not necessary for KDE, because KDE already has bluez, bluez-qt and bluedevil packages installed. jssouza your change adds desktop files in /home/guest/ to the Menu in an Other category. Not getting you. Why do you have desktop files in /home/guest? Other things: - The problem is more involved. I only mentioned the final fix that has to go into update-menu - update-menu should not be called dir...

jssouza this thread might interesting you. Vivaldi Browser (Post by Ed_P #74542) Seems to be that unlike other DEs, cinnamon needs more than just a simple update-desktop-database command. So will have to use the old method of installing the desktop files. Appending the following to update-menu, to ...
