Porteus and VirtualBox (6.1)

Run an ftp server on your host...
Good point - but this will only cover one aspect;
"to exchange files between the host and the guest"

Actually, the guest-additions do a lot more than that.. ;)

Porteus and VirtualBox (6.1)

Hi guys, let's talk about virtualbox in porteus(4). I've build the vbox-6.1 and vbox-guest modules via the vbox builder. Obviously i have to activate vbox on the host system to be able to create virtual machines (VMs). (Q:)should the vbox guest (additions) module also be activated on the host? If ye...

Unable to store changes to savefile.dat

--> not able to unmount <-- oopps -- yep, 1st problem arising from the sdb thing being a drive not a partition. (other probs may follow) Do you have a 2nd usb thumbdrive which we can format properly and install porteus to it while porteus is running? or any other PC running linux? (I have no experie...

Unable to store changes to savefile.dat

Hi lm089 Q: bios or uefi maschine? Some things to try/test: a) Add the changes path to your savefile in /boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg b) --> the pen drive is mounted as /mnt/sdb <-- I've seen this once or twice and am still wondering how this works (does it?) without a proper partitioning scheme. My dr...

Missing operating system FATAL: INT18: BOOT FAILURE Porteus 5.0 on Virtualbox 6.1, help is appreciated, thanks

Hmmm...virtualbox 6.1 works as well. What I have done: Boot porteus 4 (as host) > build vbox 6.1 module via v-box builder > reboot into "always fresh" mode to avoid any possible interference with other modules/settings. Activated the v-box module > start VM with ISO file > install to VM-vdi file > r...

Hello joejac Are you still using porteus 3.1? -- it might be a bit too old. However, the following combination,(which i had at hand),work flawlessly. Base OS on thumb drive - porteus 4 x86_64 XFCE VirtualBox-5.2.20-v4.0-x86_64 Guest OS porteus 5 x86_64-XFCE installed from ISO-file to porteus_5.vdi (...

setting hostname breaks X login in porteus4.0

I see <some hostname> login: [ctrl+alt+Fn] Without the patch I see "porteus login:" Once logged in in that tty it changes to <some hostname> login: and stays that way. setting hostname breaks X login in porteus4.0

still a mystery to me why donald gets a different result... ....must be some kind of magic... :) However, I renamed the changes folder and created a new/empty one > reboot the OS > changed the host name via gui apps (root thunar/mousepad), (xauth list still showed porteus) and rebooted immediately ...
