Should Porteus prevent system permission changes when rootcopy is stored in non-POSIX file system?

All I did was copy an existing desktop file, /home/guest/Desktop/.....desktop, and modified it to meet my needs. /etc/xdg/autostart/touchpad.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Touchpad Exec=sh /home/guest/touchpad.sh Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/porteus/tools.png Terminal=false Type=Application Name[en_US]=Tou...

Should Porteus prevent system permission changes when rootcopy is stored in non-POSIX file system?

Alternative to rootcopy: A simple script (some cp commands). This script should be started automatically (After all modules are loaded) How can this be done? Where does the script have to be saved? I have scripts like that, one for touchpad tweaks for example. I save the scripts in my /home/guest f...

what i would rather see:
1. nonPOSIX rootcopy disabled by default ie. just won't work at all
2. if the above(allow nonPOSIX) is to be entertained, it should enabled specifically via a cheatcode : eg ntfs-rootcopy (with appropriate admonitions in cheatcodes document)
I vote for this idea.

before or after I install Porteus? Whenever you want. The change will be added after the grub code you have to boot Mint so if Porteus is installed the new menu will work, if it's not it won't and you will use your Mint menu entry instead. Maybe this menu code will help you. menuentry "Porteus" { s...

Noob with Asus netbook

How embarrassing! It didn't load because the USB stick is crook. "crook"? :%) I have created a separate partition for Porteus but not installed yet. Will I be able to use grub to choose which OS to load? Sure. Grub, grub2 and grub4dos should all be able to handle it. Something like this should work...

I boot from ISOs and my files; modules, changes, optional, reside on NTFS partitions. This senario has worked for me for many years, if your change stops this from working I am against it. :)

Missing OS

Hello aronkvh, welcome to Porteus.

You said you had a harddrive, what OS is on it? Windows? What did you use to boot the USB drive, a boot manager like grub or grub4dos or the netbook's bios options?

update-libreoffice does not work

Modules, .xzm files, in the porteus/modules directory are activated automatically when booting. If you see the Thunderbird module in the /mnt/live/memory/images directory it has been activated. Why do you say it's not available? Is it not in the Menu>Internet list of apps or are you getting an error...

Ah Grub4dos, a system I used for years to boot BartPE systems. Try this menu. find --set-root uuid () 4bf85d63-b0ad-4dc6-8ce3-889c26fc3e83 kernel /boot/syslinux/vmlinuz root=UUID=4bf85d63-b0ad-4dc6-8ce3-889c26fc3e83 changes=/porteus/changes # root=/dev/sda7 initrd /boot/syslinux/initrd.xz And when y...

The instructions are for stand alone systems, like those on a USB stick but that's not what you are running. How are you multi-booting? What app are you using, grub or grub2? Please post your boot menu.

Porteus 5.0 RC2 bug reports

-- sudo cat /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<name of file> reveal the (wifi) Pw to users. No user should be able to read this file (-rw------- 1 root root) Not even the user who created it? I use sudo in a couple of scripts I run regularly, it makes running the scripts from the DE more conve...
