Dat save seemingly not working...

Just tried Cinnamon and Xfce4...5.0-rc2... the savefile is not working as TrumanMcNutt has said. The option to input a location doesn't accept anything and the directory button does nothing. Tests done in Always Fresh. EDIT: Booting from the Cinnamon ISO gives the same result. Md5sum of the ISO: 22d...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

raja, I have only used lowercase in naming folders and the same on the command line. I never tested uppercase with the stock initrd, but I did test with the revised one and it found the folder with no problems. I used a mix of uppercase and lowercase for the name. I have no doubt that without the do...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

Started playing with this and taking a cue from finit and the code to parse the command line, I changed lines 42, 80, 82 in linuxrc from $PORTEUS to $FOLDER.......it still works. that's still with FOLDER=$PORTEUS right? can you try something for me?: put somewhere linuxrc: echo " the PORTEUS var is...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

Is it possible that setting the FOLDER=$PORTEUS causes it to parse the command line closer? The whole problem I've had is that the command line seems to be almost ignored as far as from= or cfgfile= cheat codes, it never picks it up with the standard initrd.xz. With this initrd, it doesn't seem to m...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

um... would think that $PORTEUS would need to be defined somewhere? ie. PORTEUS=<something> ? I think that the variable "FOLDER=$PORTEUS" on line 42 is doing that......it's the only other change I made. It's easy to test if one is so inclined. I'm happy with it, as I said everything I've tried boot...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

Further testing shows that only line 80 and 82 of linuxrc need the change for my system.

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

I always used to change FOLDER=porteus and cfg file name*, to a name in my installation, in linuxrc. It worked. But as you said, one has to rebuild initrd every time. Can you please post the changes you made in the "search" command for cfg file, in linuxrc.? In grub 2.02, I keep vmlinuz and initrd....

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

If it is a question of finding the right porteus installation, did you thought about specifying a different folder target with custom-name.sgn file? sgnfile=some_name.sgn ... This cheatcode specifies the *.sgn file which Porteus will search for. This is useful when you want to store several Porteus...

LXQt 0.16.0 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Hahaha! Not trying to convincing you to migrate to Xfce, but you can disable desktop icons: right click on desktop -> Desktop Settings... -> Icons tab -> Uncheck everything in 'Default icons' section. If you want to make it the default every time you boot, just need to include in your rootcopy a co...

Xfce 4.12 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Trying it now and it's pretty good, definitely lighter in usage than Xfce-4.14. But LXQt beats both for boot times by around half. Getting this error for Celluloid: guest@porteus:~$ celluloid (io.github.celluloid_player.Celluloid:1461): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 08:05:45.208: Settings schema 'io.github.cel...

LXQt 0.16.0 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

LXQt is light, and for some tasks it's fast, but in my opinion the development went to the wrong direction (or maybe no direction). Xfce seems more mature and has better developers. However, the move to GTK3 was bad, and the performance is not as good as it used to be. Except for some expecific tas...

LXQt 0.16.0 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Besides LXQt release notes , this new module also sets GTK 2/3 themes that were missing in RC2. http://www.mediafire.com/file/2nqsw4stcj97bt4/003-lxqt-0.16.0.xzm/ (21.9 MB) It's a very fast desktop on booting, faster than my JWM. The only bug I've yet seen is when trying monitor configuration from ...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

Thank you roadie . :) My USB installs are on FAT32 drives which I'm sure plays a part in their working for me. Maybe if Buurman keeps the "porteus" name for his Porteus install it will still be separate from his other installs and work without the from= cheatcode. Just trying to be helpful. I expec...

Running Porteus on harddisk via GRUB ?!

When booting from an install with grub2 I don't need the from= cheatcode, I don't understand why he thinks he does. Ed_P, Not to speak for Buurman here, but this is my view on things. From the OP's posts, it's clear that Buurman has much the same issue that I'm having, though worse because Buurman ...
