Porteus Kernel Builder
Here's a link to patches that give you more options in the configuration for processors. The standard kernel options are really limited. The patches are made for the 5.4 to 5.8 kernel series, but worked well for 5.10.16. They're meant for anyone who doesn't care to use compiling flags and knows what...

Xfce 4.16 (for Porteus 5 RC2)
Yeah, 4.12 is definitely faster. But I found out that on 4.16 disabling vsync in the compositor (and keeping it enabled on the driver) makes the experience much better -- especially after another bug that was fixed related to performance! Do you know how to enable vsync on AMD's driver? If so, I ca...

Xfce 4.16 (for Porteus 5 RC2)
@fulalas,
It'll be nice to see another bug squashed. The amdgpu graphics seem to have a lot of them, not just with Xfce, but the kernel as well. I haven't used Xfce 4.16 in a while, I've been on 4.12 as I like the small size and response.

Mount external drive
Something like this should work: bash -c 'echo /dev/sdd1 /mnt/sdd1 ntfs-3g users,noatime,nodiratime,suid,dev,exec,async,comment=x-gvfs-show 0 0 >>/etc/fstab' Also, sed will insert lines, but I have little knowledge of using it. You might want to make a backup of /etc/fstab before running this, just ...

@ neko and Blaze I'm not having any problems with compiling 5.10.xx or 5.11-rc kernels. They boot well with no errors and modules can be deactivated in any order, there is no freezing. I'm using the standard initrd and aufs5 patches. I don't have or use aufs-utils as I haven't seen the need for it. ...

@Blaze, Possibly the Kernel Builder is getting the wrong patch, but I just compiled 5.10.12 using AUFS patch (Ver. 5.10-20210111) and it boots well. Module activation and deactivation works as it should too, with the standard initrd. porteus:[guest]:~$ uname -a Linux porteus.example.net 5.10.12-port...

And the error was really my new .config file. I used a .config from two previous versions and it worked. I keep disabling functions that I don't use to optimize the kernel and I end up removing something crucial. :) Linux 5.10.10 #1 SMP Sun Jan 24 07:41:47 -03 2021 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M...

maia, That is really strange, as the initrd is responsible for loading rootcopy. I can't see any way that the kernel would affect that. During boot the show the information the system is reading the rootcopy folder but in reality does not read it. I must have done some improper configuration when I...

I was able to compile the kernel using the single patch. The system starts, reads all modules but refuses to read the rootcopy directory. Inform on boot that are reading the rootcopy directory but start as if it were freshmode :oops: maia, That is really strange, as the initrd is responsible for lo...

babam,
Here are the sizes. I build for my machine, so small modules. Bigger ones would show the differences better.
000-kernel-5.10.6-aufs-uncomp.xzm = 15920K
000-kernel-5.10.6-aufs-xz.xzm = 15488K
000-kernel-5.10.6-aufs-zstd.xzm = 15824K

@ Blaze and @ roadie , What are the benefits of compressed kernel modules? In Porteus all files including kernel modules are compressed into xzm containers by squashfs-tools (e.g. 000-kernel.xzm). If kernel modules are compressed then the system will decompress twice when loading a kernel module? H...
