One might presume that using a "." in sh or bash or a script as part of a filename automatically makes the "." a regex, e.g. it then stands for any one character. But it is not so, and here is the proof: root@porteus:/backup# mkdir Ed_P_test root@porteus:/backup# cd Ed_P_test/ root@porteus:/backup/E...

[Solved] Where are the GNU (LESSER) GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE in 5.0rc?

^ If you say so… I checked Porteus-XFCE-v4.0-x86_64.iso and copied all of boot/docs to the /tmp to examine: root@porteus:/tmp/tmp/docs# grep LESSER * root@porteus:/tmp/tmp/docs# ls -o total 68 dr-xr-xr-x 2 root 140 2018-04-22 00:00 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root 60 2020-11-28 19:44 .. -r-xr-xr-x 1 root 17993 2...

Secure ISO and high-level VM-trojans

"But remember: What was written in PMs is confidential and not to be quoted in public." That's not true. If you give everyone permission to quote all and any of your PMs you ever wrote, even be it very personal info, you sure can do so. Could it be you never shared very personal stuff via PM in you...

[Solved] Where are the GNU (LESSER) GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE in 5.0rc?

No solution for that, or is there? A "kind of solution" exists, $PORTDIR directs to the Porteus system directory, the one with base, optional, rootcopy … folders in it - and $BOOTDEV directs to the boot device. One could presume that when $BOOTDEV is e.g. /mnt/sda1/ that the GNU LICENCE could be ad...

uploaded just for you darling. :) Thanks, I was just curious, the 4 downloads tell me that people want the stuff. Do you want to create a thread in x86-64 modules to promote it even more, or should I do so? be careful with such low-level tools. Indeed, you could ruin a complete hard disk. Only use ...

@ Rava May have something to do with how your ISP does the peering. I for example can not download from dl.porteus.org at a reasonable speed. I always get only some KB/s. That could be, on other sites I get much higher speed of course, or else writing the article would have made no sense. Well, it ...

TestDisk & PhotoRec 7.1

Rava, I simply took the testdisk.SlackBuild, changed the version number and ran it with the testdisk-7.1.tar.bz2 source. You can too, I suppose. :) I tried: (left out all non-errors above) […] checking whether Qt5 is using --std=c++14... Package Qt5Core was not found in the pkg-config search path. ...
