Adjust brighness on laptop display?
https://linuxhint.com/display_brightness_commandline/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/backlight#Kernel_command-line_options Thank you for your reply. The first link you gave either gives the "incorrect" option (setting brightness via xrandr) or the xbacklight option which does not work with every ...

Adjust brighness on laptop display?
Hello Is there any tool, which I may have not yet discovered in porteus, that would allow me to adjust the "laptop screen brightness" (technically the LCD backlight intensity) in LXDE? I looked in the porteus setting center, and everything related in the preferences menu, and also right clicking on ...

(Default) in LXDM throws you back to LXDM on LXDE
Thank you very much for clarifying that, burdi01, I thought there was an X config file somewhere which defines the default and that's just read by the login manager (or at least defaults the first available desktop... except if the login manager is defined as a desktop itself in which case indeed it...

(Default) in LXDM throws you back to LXDM on LXDE
I believe you but from what I remember, when using MATE, the (default) logged me into MATE and not threw me back to LDXM. Maybe I remember wrong.

(Default) in LXDM throws you back to LXDM on LXDE
Probably not a serious bug but I changed my desktop from MATE to LXDE (cutting down the boot time from 20 seconds to around 5 :showoff: ) and as I have autologin disabled, I have noticed that upon entering the password and hitting enter, LXDM throws me back to the login screen. I had to manually sel...

Package Managers, Module Builders
2. build it on a Slackware or porteus, dependencies first We absolutely must have an automatic dependency tracer and builder, nobody is going to waste their life resolving dependency chain one by one Yes, I understand that automatic dependency resolution is an important aspect of the Linux user exp...

BTW I like myoffice + onlyoffice Thank you for the recommendations, I will try them as I am a sucker for office suites. While still considering Office 2010 / Office for Mac 2011 as the pinnacle of human achievement (but only because it solves the large file size problems Word 2007 & previous versio...

Package Managers, Module Builders
The only foolproof (or even expertproof) method I would recommend is to 1. get the relevant package (and any dependencies) from slackbuilds.org 2. build it on a Slackware or porteus, dependencies first (if building on porteus you will need the 05-devel.xzm module, as Blaze kindly informed me) 3. onc...

Also, if I may ask, booting into guest goes though without a password, even though I set one in the porteus config center. I was expecting it to ask for it before showing the desktop. Is there any way to modify this behavior, like by altering a config file? Might be a good idea to have like a check...

First of all, thank you all for the assistance. I converted the packages alright, copied them into /porteus/base and they work. High resolution and sound work right out of the box! Gnome 2 (MATE) is a huge step forward from KDE, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making porteus available with...

the simple question "in which order are the packages loaded" Modules are loaded in alphanumerical sequence. It is best to load an app's dependencies 1st. I have scripts that do it for some of the apps I use. Thank you for the clear answer. May I ask why would you need scripts if they are loaded in ...

As I mentioned before, I won't be using internet on the porteus machine. I am not interested in any salix or whatever, I already said that I have the packages in tgz format (happily working on a vanilla Slackware 15 installation). Also the answer to the simple question "in which order are the packag...

Thank you, fortunately one dep only, but I will keep that in mind. Is there any difference between having the dependency modules separate or merged together (considering that they are loaded in alphabetical order, a question yet unanswered)?
