would you please comment how to correctly test that all i did was: copy /etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources to /home/guest/.Xresources change some values (background/foreground/cursor color, scrollbar ...) logout and log back in, run xterm/uxterm to check i notice you're using i586, my test was in x86_64 .....

rc.local might be too early in the boot process.. ie. before X has started..
so autostart at the DE level might be better..
